Why maison medium?

I started maison medium as a true “design house” of sorts. Aligning with everything else I’m interested in, this “house” is referencing not only my material background in architecture and art, but also referencing the idea of what a house (in my view) is: a manifestation of our most authentic selves. Maison Medium is thus a virtual “house” to dump my art, thoughts, products, research, and basically anything and everything related to my interests (which are vast & ever-changing).

'Medium' as a word is also endlessly intriguing to me. It encompasses both the tangible and the intangible, yet paradoxically, converges in the realm of nothingness. A medium can signify an interspace, a liminal zone between entities, or it can denote material as conduit for communication — a vessel through which expressions and ideas flow. This is how they both conclude in a non-material space: in its first interpretation, it is an embodiment of emptiness, while in the latter, it is a vehicle of transience. This idea parallels the virtual domain where this very “house” exists, as it finds residence within the most expansive void of all — the internet. 🙃

Why Monarch?

The name "Monarch" carries a significance that, for me, transcends its conventional use in describing a sole ruler or sovereign rulership. There’s another interpretation routed in the word’s etymology:

The roots of Monarch are in the Greek words "monos" (meaning "alone" or "singular") and "archein" (meaning "to rule").

This suggests the concept of ruling alone or being the single authority. This notion of singular leadership or authority can be metaphorically extended to the concept of self-governance or mastery over one's own life. In a deeper, more esoteric sense, the idea of a monarch symbolizes the journey of an individual towards self-realization and autonomy, embodying the principle of being the sole ruler of one's inner (and thus outer) destiny.

"Monarch" is not just a title or a term; it is a symbol of individual power and transformation. What I like about this word is that through its etymology it could mean both being ruled by an external authority, or being ruled through your own internal masterty. This dual symbolism underscores the potential for transformation and the realization of personal sovereignty (through which I resonate deeply).
